Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?(And Other Concerns) By Mindy Kaling

Recently I started watching a very funny show called the Mindy Project with my daughter.  It is about a somewhat successful narcissistic doctor, her office of lovable, but weird people and her dating life. If you get the chance check it out.  From reading the book I found that Mindy Kaling is also a writer, producer and director of this show and formally of the show the Office, which according to my friend Denise is really funny too. So I guess a better check that out. Either way I really loved this book!

It is a short witty story of a girl who lived a happy normal life. She always had big dreams for her future.  Written chronologically from her early life until present day, Kaling shares her opinions on just about everything from friendship to dating.  This is not an advice book. It is a look at the world through her hilarious mind.  It is open, honest and laugh out loud funny.  She is the first person to poke fun at herself.  At the same time, she has no problems pointing out the incongruities she has faced because she is not blond, blue-eye or a size six.

She is has worked with several famous actors and writers from the Office and Saturday Night Live.  The stories about their times together are interesting and funny.  The great thing about her as a writer is that she makes stories about people we will never know like her parents, friends and old bosses just as compelling.  She knows she is not perfect.  She just likes to think she looks that way, especially when getting ready for a date.  It seems Mindy Kaling did things the right way and came out successful.   She went to college, learned her craft and worked her way up. Mindy does not fit the mold of an all American girl, but definitely is living her American dream. She is sarcastic, witty, opinionated and not afraid to share it.  At the same time she never has to trash others to get her point across.
